Introduction of anti refelective coated glass.

2024-09-20

AR coated glass, also known as enhanced transmission glass or anti-reflective glass, refers to the application of a special coating to reduce reflections and increase light transmission.
Features of AR coated glass:

- The highest visible light transmittance is 99%, with an average transmittance over 95%, significantly enhancing the original brightness of LCD and PDP screens while reducing energy consumption.
- Average reflectance is less than 4%, with the lowest value being less than 0.5%.
- Resistant to ultraviolet rays, effectively protecting the eyes by greatly reducing UV transmittance.
- High temperature resistance, capable of withstanding temperatures exceeding 500 degrees (compared to general acrylic which can only withstand around 80 degrees).
- Enhanced color and contrast, resulting in more intense image color contrast and clearer scenes.
- Superior scratch and abrasion resistance, comparable to that of glass with a hardness greater than 7H (while PC board hardness typically ranges from about 2H to 3H).
- Can withstand various cleaning agents without damaging the film layer.
- Strong impact resistance equivalent to that of thicker acrylic panels.
- Improved surface flatness compared to coated acrylic, especially noticeable in larger sizes.
- Maintains viewing angle after installation unlike acrylic which may experience reduced viewing angles post-installation.
- Minimal cold and hot deformation suitable for various environments while providing a glossy appearance.

Main applications:

AR coating is applied on ordinary tempered glass surfaces to improve light transmittance, and to some extent enable easy-cleaning functionality, and extend the lifespan. This process mainly used for display with high transmittance requirement and luxury lighting and so on.
Typically single or double side will be applied , differentiated by transmittance requirement and specific application.

Processing notice:

Usually it is not suggested conduct chemical strengthening process after AR coating to avoid coating surface damage.
