Diptech Printing vs. Silk Screen Printing

2025-08-18

When enhancing Glass with logos or patterns, two primary methods stand out: Diptech Printing and Silk Screen Printing. Understanding their differences helps select the optimal solution for your project.

Silk Screen Printing:

A well-established technique, screen printing uses a fine mesh stencil (screen) to transfer ink directly onto the glass surface. It's highly cost-effective, especially for large batches of simpler designs with solid colours or limited pattern designs. Think company logos, basic borders, or straightforward patterns. While durable ceramic inks are baked on, achieving extremely fine detail or complex photographic images can be challenging. The process is relatively fast for high volumes but requires separate screens for each colour, increasing setup time and cost for multi-colour jobs.

Diptech Printing:

Diptech (often Dip-Tech or Digital Ceramic Printing) is a digital process that jets specialized ceramic inks directly onto the glass. This technology excels in precision and complexity. It effortlessly reproduces intricate details, smooth gradients, photographic images, and unlimited colours in a single pass – ideal for stunning architectural features, detailed artwork, or custom designs. Setup is faster and cheaper for complex or short-run jobs since no physical screens are needed. The printed result offers excellent durability and UV resistance comparable to screened ceramics after firing. While typically higher in cost per unit for very large, simple runs, its flexibility for customization and detail is unmatched.
